Alarming Recording Shows Moment Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Surprise Attack
One senior officer that leaped to the assistance of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knife attacker has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a knife to the neck of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the officers and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver after a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in July 2023.
Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a stun gun.
"Policeman attacked," the officer was heard to say over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and dashcam recording made public by the force revealed Brown, that was clothed in black with a head covered, run up to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife extended.
He collided with the policeman who tripped and fell to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and tried to wrestle him to the floor despite being repeatedly struck with the knife.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a clear shot, ending the fight to an end.
Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "I need help on my neck now, I got knifed in the throat."
Sergeant Ansell suffered two open wounds to his neck and further cuts to his limbs and body, while Sgt Foster suffered slash wounds.
The department said Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to stop his partner's blood loss prior to emergency responders reached the scene.
This most recent recognition comes after the trio of policemen were granted organizational Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the police federation award from the local union branch in spring 2024.
They were also awarded a Area Bravery Award in summer 2024.
"The efforts of the entire team eventually protected each other and meant no members of the public endured any injuries."
Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, per the department.
