These last 48 hours have been incredibly eventful. This past Monday, we celebrated the half-decade milestone of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with a tournament to determine the best first-party game of this console generation. You were given eight PS5 games and eight Xbox Series X games to compete against each other, culminating in a final showdown where the leading contender from each console would go head-to-head. We've witnessed some nail-biting finishes in the first two rounds, particularly the extremely tight polls from the previous day. At this point, it's time to crown the leading PlayStation and Xbox titles before Thursday’s final battle.

PlayStation 5 Contenders

On the PS5 side, we have the Kratos-killer, Astro Bot. Perhaps it's expected given that it took home the top prize at last year’s Game Awards, but its victory over God of War Ragnarök feels like a true upset. But to get to the finals, it'll need to defeat the most valuable player of the PlayStation 5 era: Insomniac Games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 enjoyed an easy journey to the semi-finals, leaping past Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another Insomniac game!) to secure a spot in the final four. Can Spidey topple a home-grown Sony mascot, or is he destined to become a miniature appearance in the upcoming Astro Bot title?

The Xbox Series X Side

For Xbox Series X has been more exciting. Coming out on top from a diverse lineup of competitors is Forza Horizon 5. It's a big victory for the open-world driving game so far, proving that a more specialized genre game deserves to be on the same pedestal as classic platformers and cinematic action-adventure games. Its final obstacle en route to the finals is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a crowd favorite, defeating acclaimed titles like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Can it beat a larger-scale title from an well-known franchise that's synonymous with Xbox itself? Should anyone manage this feat, it's likely Indiana Jones.
